Sacred Heart University was founded in 1963 by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, the bishop of Bridgeport, CT. It is the second largest Catholic university in New England, and was the first to be lead by lay people. Sacred Heart University is made up of four colleges: Arts and Sciences, University College, the John F. Welch College of Business, and Education & Health Professions, which is where the nursing program is based.
